Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Mike Bushell reveals advice Carol Kirkwood gave him | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Strictly Come Dancing is just days away from airing on the BBC and all of the current line-up are getting all the help they can before the big launch.

Mike Bushell may be used to taking on challenges in his day job, but they won’t be anything like Strictly.

Ahead of his debut, it seems the BBC Breakfast sports presenter has turned to his colleagues for some advice ahead of the 2019 series.

The presenter revealed: “I’ve got a lot of BBC Breakfast colleagues who have already done Strictly and two of them won, so no pressure there.

“Carol Kirkwood and Naga Munchetty who did it said, ‘Please just go and enjoy it, put a smile on your smile on your face and don’t worry about it too much’.

“I think if you get too tense with every step or every move you will just fall to pieces.

“I think it’s a case of enjoying the ride for as long as it lasts.”

Mike added: “Every week is a bonus and just embracing the journey and Strictly family.”

The BBC Breakfast regular went on to explain what he is looking for in a professional dance partner.

He said: “They’re all fantastic dancers. Obviously I’m 5”5, so I’m vertically challenged.

“On paper you would say one of the shorter dancers but then it would be quite fun to be with a giant. They could throw me around.

“I feel sorry for whoever gets me because if they have any ambition of going all the way they may be disappointed.

“I will say to whoever gets me, I’ll listen and I’ll try. I’ll be obedient and they can tell me off if I get too carried away.

“They can rein my energy in a bit. It will be a privilege to get any of them.”

Meanwhile, it seems Shirley Ballas thinks the pairings will come as a surprise to fans of Strictly Come Dancing.

The head judge appeared on This Morning yesterday and teased what fans can expect in the first show this weekend.

The Queen of Latin revealed: “I can tell you that’s the most unpredictable set of pairings I’ve ever seen on any show.

“Particularly on this one after 15 years, I mean. I was say there with Motsi [Mabuse] and I was like, ‘Oh this one will go with that one’, and no, it went this way.

“So it’s unpredictable, and I’ve got a funny feeling that’s how the whole of this series is going to be.”

Shirley insisted: “I can only say that in all the years I’ve done this or watched it, this is unpredictable when you pair these people up.”

Strictly Come Dancing starts this Saturday on BBC One at 7.50pm.
