Coronation Street spoilers: Sinead realises she won't see Bertie's first Christmas | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Tonight’s episode of Coronation Street no doubt had fans weeping as Sinead (played by Katie McGlynn) was told her cancer had returned.

She broke down as the doctor revealed her form of the disease was aggressive and there was no cure, they could only stabilise it to give her a little extra time.

Sinead was keen to find out just how long she had left with her son Bertie as she cried it was all her fault the cancer had returned.

After hearing the news, she sobbed: “This is because of me isn’t it? This is all my doing.

“When I was pregnant with Bertie, I delayed by chemo. this is all my fault and you know it.”

Sinead asked the doctor: “How long are we talking?”

The doctor tried to dodge the questions but she was adamant she know how long she had left to spend with the tot.

“He’s going to be eight months on Saturday,” she said showing a photo of the baby. “Am I going to see him start school?”

“It’s unlikely,” the doctor replied solemnly.

He added they would try and stabilise the cancer for as long as possible but it did little to console Sinead and husband Daniel (Rob Mallard).

“Years? A year? Roughly…” Sinead demanded to know as he replied: “Maybe three to four months.”

“Months?” Daniel cried out as his wife continued to break down.

“You might respond well to chemo but if you don’t, you might be too weak to spend time with Bertie,” the doctor added.

Sinead then made the devastating realisation that she may not get to see the tot turn one or even his first holiday.

“I might not see him at his first Christmas,” she sobbed.

Actress Katie opened up about Sinead’s storyline yesterday explaining she asked for her character to die.

“I was talking to Iain MacLeod and Kate Oates originally about this story because initially I had a meeting with Kate and said I think I might want to leave.

“I’ve been there for so long and not had that big of a storyline, and I was hitting a point in my life where it’s like, ‘Do I go, do I stay.’ And they told me this storyline and I said, ‘This is amazing, please do this.’

“Then we were in talks for the ending of it, I was just sat there and I said, ‘I want her to die.’”

Katie added: “That’s real life and life isn’t a fairytale and these women are dying.”

Coronation Street continues Friday on ITV at 7.30pm.
