Coronation Street spoilers: Bethany Platt devastated as James Bailey rejects her | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

In upcoming episodes on Coronation Street, Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) will be left nursing a broken heart when she is rejected by a new romantic interest.

Following her kiss with Daniel (Rob Mallard), the Bistro worker has been struggling with her conscience and will turn to newcomer James Bailey (Nathan Graham).

The pair will strike up a friendship with Bethany believing the aspiring footballer is falling for her.

However, she’ll be left devastated when James explains he isn’t attracted to her leaving her feeling rejected.

James will explain to Bethany he is gay and has been struggling with his sexuality.

While Bethany is initially taken aback, it remains to be seen if she will support him and keep his secret.

Coronation Street teased: “Ed spots that James has an admirer in Bethany and tries to convince him to ask her out on a date!

“Later, the boys lead Ed back to the house and Aggie has a present for him.

“What will he think of the surprise party with all their neighbours? With the party in full swing, James offers a glum looking Bethany a shoulder to cry on.”

“But when she learns in for a kiss James reveals that he’s gay,” the ITV soap revealed. “How will Bethany react?”

Bethany could threaten to expose James’ secret as she’s left feeling deflated and rejected but it’s likely she’ll support him.

After having a tough time watching her friends move on with their lives it’s likely Bethany could join forces with James as they try to move on with their lives.

Meanwhile, Ali Neeson (James Burrows) is set to face a health battle in coming episodes.

After the Underworld factory collapse and the death of Ronan Truman (Joe Mallalieu), Ali has been struggling to cope and turn to prescription drugs.

Teasing what’s to come for Ali, James revealed: “He has been struggling and fighting these demons in his head for a while now ever since the Ronan thing happened and he finds it difficult to talk to anyone so he starts to self medicate.

“He is very independent and private, he internalises a lot. He doesn’t have a lot of people he can trust.

“The flashbacks are making him anxious and he needs to relax to try and get through every day so he starts taking different tablets to try and cope with his demons and to be able to do his job. Before you know it, he realises that he has become addicted.”

Ali’s new girlfriend Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) will suspect something is up but he’ll refuse to open up to her.

“He sees the police come and arrest the pharmacist he is very panicked that he is going to be found out and Maria comes in, she is doing a lovely thing and he snaps at her and they have a fall out,” James added.

Coronation Street airs tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
