The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 ending: June’s daughter killed in devastating finale? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers from The Handmaid’s Tale season three.

The third season of The Handmaid’s Tale has seen June (played by Elisabeth Moss) go through the wringer.

She’s been forced to let Serena Joy see her daughter Nichole, who is in Canada with husband Luke and forced to watch several other handmaids and Marthas die.

Finally, June decided enough was enough and she was going to free the stolen children of Gilead and get them safely to Canada.

She has the backing of Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and had planned to take his wife Eleanor to Canada too.

Unfortunately, Eleanor died in episode 11 meaning she won’t get to be freed from Gilead but that’s only made June more determined to save the children.

However, one fan of the series is certain June will be left devastated as the plan will end in disaster and she could lose her daughter.

Reddit user AuthorTomFrost noted “too many things have gone right for June” recently hinting a big shock is in store.

They explained: “Following a theme that's been building for three years, Gilead proves once and for all that it's about maintaining power, not about fertility.

“Their fighters chase the plane full of kids into Canadian airspace and shoot it down, prompting a war that takes up all of seasons four and five.”

It’s not yet known if June will manage to reach her daughter Hannah to get her included in the rescue mission.

But if she does, could June be left heartbroken if her daughter’s on the plane and it’s shot down.

The handmaid has tried fruitlessly in the past to try and rescue the youngster but perhaps her death could be part of a much bigger plot.

Hannah’s death would no doubt spur June on to completely Gilead and all it stands for - not just taking the children who’ve been wrongly raised by others.

Fortunately, it seems this theory isn’t well loved with fans, with another suggesting it will be Commander Lawrence who ruins the rescue plot.

User AbomodA said: “I don't think they'll do that, it's too brutal. And they've already had the "foiled plane escape" a couple of seasons ago. They'll get out, and it will start a war.

“Lawrence will realise June could have saved Eleanor. He'll be promoted, and become the new villain (with Waterford & Winslow out of the picture).

“June will go underground with the resistance.”

Fans don’t have long to wait to find out if June’s rescue mission is successful - here’s to hoping it is!

The Handmaid’s Tale season three airs in the UK on Channel 4 on Sunday at 9pm.
