Fans of the Big Bang Theory have been waiting a long time for baby news from Amy (played by Mayim Bialik) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and fans believe it could finally happen.

The CBS show posted a teaser for the final two episodes - both airing on Thursday - and it suggests Amy receives some news after a phone call.

The tease says: “‘Hello? Yes, this is Dr. Fowler. I see. Ok, thank you.’ One phone call, so many possibilities. Don’t miss the two-part finale of The Big Bang Theory.”

Fans were sent into meltdown as they speculated what the phone call means and came to one theory.

One fan said: “Could Amy be pregnant? Will there be little shamies running around??? Wish it wasn't the series finale.”

Another added: “A Nobel and a shamy baby. Please.”

A third fan pointed out a clue from the spinoff Young Sheldon, which suggests Sheldon has two children: “Young Sheldon said he has two kids. Can Amy be pregnant at last? I don’t want to say goodbye.”

Another fan went even further: “It will be a baby.. then a flash forward in the second episode where the ‘Young Sheldon’ actor will be their son.”

The synopsis for the final episodes - The Constant Change and The Stockholm Syndrome - also teases big changes for the cast.

They read: ‘Sheldon and Amy await big news. Then, Bernadette and Wolowitz leave their kids for the first time; Penny and Leonard try to keep a secret; Sheldon and Amy stick together; and Koothrappali makes a new friend, as the gang travels together into an uncharted future.”

The scenes will be the last time fans get to see the stars they have grown up loving.

However, the characters will live on in the spin-off Young Sheldon.

Jim Parsons will continue to play Sheldon in the show’s spin-off, which focuses on his life and he recently spoke about Sheldon’s children in the spin-off.

He revealed to TVLine: "I will still speak from [Sheldon]'s vantage point. In fact, I've already done voiceovers [on Young Sheldon] from ages that are older than I ever got with Sheldon [on The Big Bang Theory].

"He spoke of his children last season, and obviously we haven't seen that yet. I will get to hear where [the writers'] imaginations take that character… that I never would've gotten to find out otherwise."
