In an exclusive interview with, Simon Webbe, 41, who made the final on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, said Anton Du Beke, 52, should be the one to replace Darcey Bussell, 50. “Anton should be on that panel,” he declared. “Anton is the man. He’s funny, he’s witty, he can give you a criticism. He can help you, but he can lighten the load a little bit.

“He deserves to be on the show more than anybody because of how long he’s been on it and his experience,” the Blue star continued.

“He’s an incredible Ballroom dancer as well.

“That’s your new Len [Goodman], as far as I’m concerned,” he added, quipping: “Simon says!”

Anton is the last remaining Strictly professional from the original 2004 line-up.

He has appeared in all 15 series of the much-loved dance programme and delivered some iconic moments which have gone down in Strictly history, from 71-year-old Ann Widdecombe’s hysterical Samba to being straddled by his partner Ruth Langsford, 59, after falling over at the end of their Paso Doble routine.

The BBC have yet to announce who will be replacing Darcey on the judging panel.

Meanwhile, Simon also gushed about his time on Strictly but said the recent “scandals” have distracted from the dancing.

“My experience on Strictly was one of the best I’ve ever had, that’s because there was none of this scandal,” he said.

“I take my hat off to Strictly over the years but I just don’t know what it’s doing now, to be honest.”

The Strictly Come Dancing star exclusively revealed he requested a single partner when he signed up for the show back in 2014.

Being single at the time himself, he said he didn’t want to be sucked into rumours of romance with a professional dance partner who had an other half themselves.

“I’ll tell you a secret,” he said. “What I did say when I was approached to do the show, I said, ‘Listen, I’m single at the minute.

“‘Please do not put me with a dancer who’s in a relationship because I do not want to be a part of a man that is breaking up a home. There’s just no way.’

“And they agreed and they put me with Kristina, who was single at the time,” he added. “So, it was great. We had no drama.”

Emphasising his desire to focus on learning to dance during his time on the show, Simon said: “It’s my one opportunity to experience something incredible that nobody from my culture would ever really get the chance to do.

“I don’t want to break up a home.”
