Pointless host Richard Osman reveals ‘easiest category ever’ for final round | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

It came as Alexander Armstrong hosted the BBC quiz programme as usual.

Contestants Ellie and David managed to get through to the Pointless final round which was based around England footballers.

The pair produced not just one but two Pointless answers and walked away with the £4,000 jackpot.

But Richard had a surprise announcement to make about one the categories they didn’t touch.

Ellie and David got a Pointless answer as they named Billy Wright as a captain of England for 10 or more matches.

They also got the highest score of zero by naming Joe Corrigan as a goalkeeper who has made five or more appearance for England.

But Richard noted the category they did not give an answer for was in fact the “easiest” category ever featured in a final round of the programme.

He told them: “You didn’t go for ‘England players who’ve won 30 or more caps’.

“Now, I’m going to go on record and say this is the easiest category we’ve ever had in a final round on Pointless.

“You didn’t need it because you got it on a harder one.”

Richard went on to list off a staggering amount of names, many of which would be familiar to those even without a big interest in the game including Raheem Sterling, Glenn Hoddle, Gareth Southgate and Theo Walcott.

Contestant David could be seen shaking his head in disbelief as Richard went through the players.

Richard added: “Anyone of whom would crop up in the mind of a football fan. Unbelievable stuff.”

“Very well done if you got one of them,” he said as he addressed the audience at home.

He said to the winning couple: “Very well done for going for the harder category and naming Pointless answers in both the tougher categories.

“Terrific performance. Well played.”

Some of those watching at home were also shocked by the amount of Pointless answers the category provided and took to Twitter to comment.

One wrote: “Got to agree with @richardosman easiest category ever. I got 3 pointless answers #pointless.”

Another added: “Just got 5 pointless answers Theo Walcott, Peter Crouch, Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, and Leighton Baines for England players with 30 or more caps #Pointless.”

Pointless airs weekdays at 5.15pm on BBC One.
