Line of Duty season 5: Will John Corbett kill Hastings' wife? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Category: Entertainment,Gossip

Season five of Line of Duty dropped one of the most unexpected cliffhangers yet after John Corbett (played by Stephen Graham) turned up at the home of Roisin Hastings (Andrea Irvine). Corbett greeted the unsuspecting Roisin under the guise of AC-12 officer Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) as he gained a degree of trust with her. The episode came to a close with Corbett entering her flat as she went to contact her estranged husband and head of AC-12 Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar).

Will John Corbett kill Hastings' wife?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Line of Duty season 5, episode 3

The simple answer is that we just don't know and will be finding out next week in episode four.

But the golden rule with Line of Duty and Jed Mercurio's writing is to expect the unexpected.

One possible option is Corbett is going to kidnap Roisin and hold her to ransom until H finally shows himself.

Corbett seemed utterly convinced Hastings was the main man and this is the only way he could expose him.

IS LINE OF DUTY BASED ON REALITY?

Admittedly, Hastings didn't help his own case after he pulled officers away from the Eastfield depot hijacking to attend the scene at the fake police ambush set up to divert attention.

By keeping Roisin alive, Corbett will have leverage against Hastings and can also extract information from her about him.

Hastings is going to be backed into a corner and will do anything he can to get his beloved wife back.

The AC-12 head still deeply loves Roisin given his reluctance to sign the divorce papers. He also reiterated to Jill Bigelow (Polly Walker) they were just going for dinner - although this was later undermined when she was later seen freshening up at the sad-looking hotel room he called home these days. Let's hope Hastings gets the call from Corbett before he does the dirty with Jill.

Then again, Corbett is a man on the edge. His desperation knows no bounds at this stage and he could easily kill Roisin to send a message to Hastings.

IS AC-12 REAL?

Corbett already confessed to Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) that he'd crossed a line and there was no way back, could murdering Roisin be part of this?

Poor Steve is going to be framed again - much like he was in season three by The Caddy (Craig Parkinson).

Though this time Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure) is going to be backing Steve, full well in the knowledge he would never harm a hair on Roisin's head.

In fact, Kate seemed more suspicious about Hastings than Steve did, again suggesting she's not going to let him go down for something Corbett did.

WHO IS IN THE CAST OF LINE OF DUTY SEASON 5?

Ultimately, Roisin is an interesting character and could tell us plenty about Hastings, so hopefully, she won't be bumped off just yet.

Corbett's actions have now put him in a very dubious position and it's hard to decide whether he's really on the side of AC-12.

He might have the same end goal but he's just gone too far and we're left wondering if he's truly gone rogue.

Unless Corbett does something drastic, his actions make him irredeemably a villain.

Line of Duty season 5 airs on BBC One on Sundays at 9pm
