‘Avengers: Endgame’: Latest Trailer Is a Trip Down Marvel’s Memory Lane

Category: Art & Culture,Arts

As the final trailer for “Avengers: Endgame” opens, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) calls heroes “an old-fashioned notion.” But it’s one that still sells, as we’re reminded in this two-and-a-half-minute clip summarizing the 21 films that have led up to this installment.

Starting with Robert Downey Jr.’s “Iron Man” in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to include Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), the Guardians of the Galaxy and more.

The trailer brings back memories, some more vivid than others. Remember when the Incredible Hulk got his own movie? The footage avoids showing Edward Norton, who originated the role before Mark Ruffalo took it over. Or when Robert Redford played the villain in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”? That was weird.

Breaking chronological order, the spot culminates with “Avengers: Infinity War” (which came out before “Ant-Man and the Wasp” and “Captain Marvel”). In it, Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiped out half the world’s population and a good chunk of the Avengers. But Captain America promises to do “whatever it takes” to get payback.

“Avengers: Endgame” will officially hit theaters on April 26.
