Netflix released The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann today (Friday, March 15) with all eight episodes dropped in one go. The Madeleine McCann Netflix documentary delves into the case of the three-year-old who vanished from her hotel apartment in 2007. The documentary series looks at all the possibilities as the evidence is re-examined.

Will Madeleine McCann ever be found?

The short answer is that we just don’t know but Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann haven’t given up searching for their eldest daughter.

At the start of each episode of the Netflix documentary, a helpline number appears on screen asking for viewers with any information to get in touch. So, there is still hope Madeleine could be found one day.

The case is the biggest missing person’s case in British history and continues to hold interest.

There have been so-called sightings of Madeleine with a Freedom of Information request from 2016 revealing a total of 8,685 possible sightings across 101 countries and territories.

Potential sightings have varied from Algeria, Argentina and Belgium, among other places.

The documentary series features a whole host of experts and witnesses, who give their take on the case.

Among those interviewed is Jim Gamble, who was one of the police officers who looked into the case initially, who believes the youngster can still be found.

Gamble said: “I absolutely believe that in my lifetime we will find out what has happened to Madeleine McCann.

“There’s huge hope to be had with the advances in technology. Year on year DNA is getting better.

“Year on year other techniques, including facial recognition, are getting better.”

While Ernie Allen, who is head of the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in the US, said: “There are many, many cases we can point to in which children have been found, have come home alive, after months, after years.

“There have been cases in the United States in which witnesses, people who have information haven’t come forward for decades, and then one day provide information that helps lead to the resolution of the case.”

Madeleine has been missing for 12 years and would be 14-years-old now.

Kate and Gerry McCann released a statement prior to the release of the Netflix documentary which said: “The production company told us that they were making the documentary and asked us to participate.

“We did not see – and still do not see – how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, it could potentially hinder it.

“Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme.

“We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme.”
