Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Ned Stark star on what was funny about death scenes | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Category: Entertainment,Gossip

The actor, who appeared as Ned Stark in season one, was tipped to be the hero of the whole series until his character was killed by Ser Ilyn Payne (played by Wilko Johnson).

His head was then left on a spike outside the Lannister castle as a warning.

Game of Thrones fans were left devastated by his death as the central hero of the gripping first season was brutally executed.

However, Bean prefers to look at the comedy in filming his execution rather than dwell on what if.

He said: “We were in Malta; it was very hot. It was very colourful. Everyone was there, and with things like that there’s a sort of gallows humour to it.

“It’s awful what’s happening, and you start giggling and laughing.

“When the head fell off, there were mistakes. It didn’t quite work out sometimes. It was quite comic. So it breaks the ice a bit.”

What “didn’t quite work out” can be left to the imagination, but there was no doubt in the series Ned definitely was killed.

The scenes truly shocked fans and gave them a first glimpse of the twists, turns and shocks that were to come in the following seasons.

Bean had no doubt of its impact, telling Entertainment Weekly: “The death, that was wonderful because it was so unexpected. I thought it was amazing how they shot it.

“But I died, and then I had to do some scenes from earlier in the episode, so it wasn’t the end for me.”

So fans may guess the actor came back from the dead to film some scenes seen in season one.

The much-loved actor also revealed some of his favourite scenes include the banquet with King Robert, but also the simple, authentic scene of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) in the old tree talking to his parents.

He, like the rest of Game of Thrones fans, will have to wait for the season to air to discover what happens in Battle of Winterfell after admitting he has never been made aware of what happens in the end.

The killing off of such a central and loved character is a reminder to fans waiting for the season eight finale that bosses are not scared to ramp up the shock factor.

Theories have been circulating about which major character will die in the series finale and who will come out on top.

Night King actor Vladimir Furdik has already revealed the character has a specific target in mind and suggested he gets his man… or woman.

Ned’s children Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) are potential targets for the Night King, but their father cannot save them now.

Fans will have to wait for the season finale on May 19 to find out if they have to endure another shocking death like that of Ned Stark.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14 on HBO and Sky Atlantic and on NOW TV on April 15
