Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Joanne Clifton has spoken out about her dreams of pursuing a career as an actress and singer. The 35-year-old, who won the Glitterball Trophy with partner Ore Oduba in 2016, is currently playing Janet in the UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show. Former A1 singer Ben Adams, 37, plays her fiancé Brad Majors in the hit musical. Joanne revealed people still expect her to dance in all her work ventures, despite her leaving the BBC One show two years ago.

She said: “I only had one review for Rocky Horror that was like 'Oh, we don’t get to see Joanne’s dancing and we all expected that’.

“But I am kind of moving away from the dancing now, I want to be known for acting and singing.”

Speaking to Metro, the sister of Kevin Clifton admitted she is happy not dancing as part of her role as Janet.

“Janet doesn’t do that much dancing, you wouldn’t have ballroom and Latin in Rocky Horror. I’m quite happy not dancing,” she spilled.

Also, the Ballroom Showdance champion let slip she had not watched the Rocky Horror film when she accepted the role portrayed by Susan Sarandon in the movie version.

"I had never seen the film, I’d never seen the show, before I got the audition," she offered.

“We decided to watch the film and the link to the stage version, and at first I was like 'What’s going on? I don’t even get it!’”

Concluding, she finished: “But then I saw the audience participation and I absolutely loved it."

Elsewhere, her sibling Kevin, 36, is hoping to write a gritty TV drama series about the world of ballroom dance.

The ex-husband of Karen Clifton, 36, has been in talks with his 2017 Strictly partner Susan Calman about the project.

He told the Burnsy show on BBC Radio Humberside: “There’s a TV drama I would really like to write based around the ballroom dance world.

“I’d quite like it to be about competitors and the other side of the ballroom dancing competition world, so not the glitz and the glamour.

“It doesn’t really have to have any dancing in it, you don’t have to see too much dancing in it. I want it to be a drama on the competitiveness, the politics, the dynamics between partnerships and other competitors and what they have to go through to in this quest to win competitions.”

He continued: “I’ve got a lot of stories and my sister has a lot of stories, my whole family really has a lot of stories from that world. I’d quite like to write it as a drama. Me and Susan Calman have been talking about it quite a lot actually.”

Kevin became the Strictly Come Dancing champion for the first last year with his dance partner Stacey Dooley, 31.

The ballroom star had previously come runner-up four times, with celebrities including Susanna Reid and Louise Redknapp.
