Coronation Street spoilers: Carla Connor and Peter Barlow in cahoots over factory collapse | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Coronation Street fans have been desperate to learn who will be behind the upcoming Underworld disaster, as it is set to be one of the biggest scenes yet to be filmed on the ITV soap.

The factory has been standing tall and providing work to Weatherfield residents for decades, ever since the days of Mike Baldwin (played by Johnny Briggs).

But now bosses have planned a devastating new storyline which will result in the death of one beloved character.

With recent hints the cobbles’ new villain is Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), the latest twist could surprise many, for a source has claimed Carla (Alison King) will be the one behind the horrific building collapse.

According to reports Carla, who suffered a recent health scare on the ITV soap, will be left with a terrible dilemma when she realises she may be the one behind the disaster.

Her ex Pete (Chris Gascoyne) will then reportedly find out Carla’s part in the events, and do everything in his power to try and protect her from a life in prison.

The alleged plot begins when the roof collapses in, and a terrified Carla realises she could be blamed for the accident.

Despite knowing the roof had structural issues and could cause danger to inhabitants, she chooses not to shell out the money to properly fix it.

Unsure who to turn to, Carla spills the beans to Peter, who is panicked at the idea of losing the woman he secretly still loves.

The character then acts rashly, and offers the builders who worked on the building a whopping £10,000 to keep the truth quiet.

According to a source, the storyline unfolds quickly, and Peter’s mistake could cost him everything.

“Carla calls in the builders when she realises there's a problem with the roof,” the insider told The Sun. “But when they tell her it's going to cost a fortune to fix it properly, she tells them to just patch it up.

"Carla's warned the roof is unsafe but she ignores the advice and carries on."

"Carla doesn't even think about it and orders the staff to continue working so they can fulfil a big order,” the source continued. “She's horrified and full of guilt when the roof collapses.

“She then realises she could be held responsible and is terrified the builder will spill how she was negligent. Peter realises Carla's in serious trouble and offers the builder £10,000 to keep his mouth shut and protect her."

ITV representatives refuse to comment on storyline speculation.

Following last night’s instalment of the ITV soap, fans were convinced they’d figured out who will set the fire on Peter’s boat in next week’s episodes.

Following the release of recent spoiler pictures, viewers have been speculating over who the culprit could be.

Peter’s son Simon (Alex Bain) will be inside the boat, but fans are worried it’s loveable Roy Cropper (David Neilson) who actually sets the vessel alight.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “What if it's actually Roy who accidentally burns down Peter's boat while sleepwalking?”

“Oh I bet Roy sleepwalks and sets Peter’s boat on fire,” another shared.

A third person wrote: “Putting it out there now. I think it’s Roy who sets fire to the boat in Corrie.”

Coronation Street continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on ITV.
