Arriving on screens this month is new Netflix series Sex Education. The coming of age drama comedy stars Gillian Anderson and promises to be a modern portrayal of young adult life. Here’s what you need to know.

When is Sex Education released on Netflix?

Sex Education will launch globally on Netflix in January, just after Christmas.

All eight episodes will drop in one go on January 11, 2019.

The series is billed as a “modern portrayal of sexual and romantic experiences, friendships and contemporary young adult life...and you’ll relive high school memories along the way”.

Who is in the cast of Sex Education on Netflix?

Leading the cast of Sex Education is The Fall and The X Files’ Gillian Anderson.

Anderson will play Jean Milburn, a larger than life sex therapist and mother of protagonist Otis.

Otis is a 16-year-old only child of two sex therapists and is played by Asa Butterfield.

His best friend Eric is played by Ncuti Gatwa and the “scary bad girl” at their school Maeve is played by Emma Mackey.

Other cast members include Kedar Williams-Stirling as Jackson, Aimee-Lou Wood as Aimee and Connor Swindells as Adam.

What is the plot of Sex Education on Netflix?

The synopsis for Sex Education reads: “Meet Otis Milburn – an inexperienced, socially awkward high school student who lives with his mother, a sex therapist.

“Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject.

“When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realises that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status.

“He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems.

“Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.”

Is there a trailer for Sex Education on Netflix?

The trailer hasn’t been released yet but it is expected very soon.

Sex Education is set to appeal to fans of the likes of Everything Sucks! and On My Block.
