Will there be another series of Hi Score Girl on Netflix?

Unfortunately, Netflix has not yet confirmed if there will be another series of Hi Score Girl.

A second season will depend on whether there enough source material from the original comics to continue the story and the show’s ratings.

As the show only dropped on Netflix at Christmas, a decision is unlikely to be made until later in 2019.

There were 12 episodes in season one so it is highly possible season two will have the same amount.

This article will be updated when more information about Hi Score Girl season two is available.

However, there is good news for anime fans about the future of Hi Score Girl.

Creator JC Staff confirmed there will be 3 OVA (Original Video Animation) episodes titled Extra Stage that will premiere on March 20, 2019 in Japan.

Animenewsnetwork.com confirmed these three episodes will stream on Netflix in March 2019 but an official date has not been confirmed.

What is Hi Sore Girl on Netflix about?

Hi Score Girl is a Japanese Magna series which was written and illustrated by Rensuke Oshikiri.

The show is described by Netflix as a romantic comedy anime series and follows the life of gamer Haruo Yaguchi (voiced by Kohei Amasaki/Johnny Yong Bosch).

His rival is classmate Akira Ono (Salumi Suzushiro/Christine Marie Cabanas) who has a secret gaming life and only ever communicates through gestures and facial expressions.

The pair become close friends and an unlikely romance develops between them.

Hi Score Girl is set in 1991 during the peak of 2D fighting games in a gaming arcade.

The official Netflix synopsis reads: “Yaguchi Haruo doesn’t have much going for him in life.

“He’s not attractive, he’s not athletic, and he’s not very academic. But he does have one unique trait in his favour: mad gaming skills.

“Known in his arcade as “Beastly Fingers Haruo” he triumphs over all challengers until one fateful day when he encounters Oono Akira.

“She defeats him playing Street Fighter II, leading Yaguchi to seeks her out to challenge her again.

“He hopes to outplay his video game rival and dominate once again.”
