According to the Forbes Rich List, the world’s highest paid author is Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts writer Rowling. With book sales in excess of £238 million, it’s not surprising that she has a personal fortune estimated at £600 million. And now Wordery has worked out how much she earns per minute for her novels. Scroll down to find out.

Well, it turns out Rowling makes around £141 per minute. Raking in around £74 million a year, that’s over £6 million a month, more than £200,000 a day and around £8,400 an hour.

In comparison, James Patterson makes a measly £129 per minute as the second highest paid author.

Way behind him is children’s author Jeff Kinney on £31 a minute, alongside DaVinci Code’s Dan Brown on £30.

While fifth place goes to Stephen King making a mere £23 a minute.

Combined, the top five authors collectively earn over £178 million a year.

For Rowling, it’s £3.40 per word against the average typing speech.

The 53-year-old was once living on benefits and became the world’s first billionaire author before giving much of her earnings away to charity.

Nevertheless, she remains one of the richest people in the world.

Aside from Harry Potter, Rowling has written five books for adults.

The Casual Vacancy was her first in 2012, but a year later it was revealed that she had penned crime novel The Cuckoo’s Calling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

Rowling has since written three sequels under the same pen name.

Meanwhile, she continues to write the scripts for Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts films, with the second of five – The Crimes of Grindelwald – currently in cinemas.
