Where to get the cheapest turkey: Aldi, Asda, Lidl or Tesco? 2018 prices REVEALED

For many Britons, turkey is an important part of a Christmas meal.

But, that’s not to say that you need to fork out on the largest, and priciest, bird on the shelves.

Whether you’re buying on a budget, or just don’t want to spend a small fortune on just one aspect of the meal, there’s plenty of ways to save when it comes to buying the meat for you Christmas dinner.

So, between Asda, Lidl, Tesco, Iceland and Aldi, where is the cheapest place to buy a turkey this year?

Iceland - £2.78 per kg

Retailing at £20, the Bernard Matthews Golden Norfolk Basted Turkey X Large appears to offer the most turkey for your money.

The bird itself has been bred in Britain and reared on family-owned farms, before being frozen in readiness for consumers.

Lidl - £3.21 per kg

Serving between three to seven people, the Braemoor Small Ready Basted Turkey with Giblets comes in at a bargain £9.99.

Each pack of this turkey weighs between 2.8 - 4.0kg - making it one of the cheapest turkeys available at major supermarkets this year.

The turkey itself can be found in the frozen aisle, so you can buy now, and enjoy it later.

Asda - £4 per kg

Asda is well-known for being home to plenty of bargains, and it seems the same will be true when it comes to Christmas this year.

Available from December 19, the Whole Basted Turkey is the cheapest in the retailer’s range this year.

Tesco Basted Whole Turkey - £4 per kg

Promising juicy, tender meat, Tesco’s British bird has been basted with turkey stock and comes with giblets.

The supermarket have brought out a range of sizes of turkey, which are available to buy now, with a small bird serving between six and 10 people and retailing at anywhere between £10 and £18.

For 19 to 22 guests, the extra large bird is retailing between £30 and £36.

Aldi - price yet to be confirmed

Aldi are yet to reveal the prices of their turkey range this Christmas.

However, the retail giant has confirmed that their fresh turkeys will be available in store from December 19 this year.
