ITV GMB: Fans turn over as Ben Shephard warns guest for 'rude' vaccinations debate | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain is normally a more relaxed affair, as regular presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid have a day off.

Yet today’s instalment of the ITV programme took a very tense turn when journalists Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway welcomed guests Catherine Cooper and Biba Tanya to the studio for a discussion over whether to give vaccines to children.

Catherine first shared how she supports the use of vaccination with children, and how important the MMR syringe was for her own.

But fellow mother Biba refused to contain her anger at the situation and immediately started shouting in the studio.

Shutting Catherine’s opinions down, the shocking turn of events meant broadcaster Ben was forced to intervene.

“Biba, Biba, Biba, let me stop you,” Ben began carefully.

“Biba, Biba," he continued, his own voice rising before the guest eventually stopped and listened.

“We don’t want it to turn into a big slanging match because that doesn’t achieve anything,” he warned.

Nodding with a smile, Biba allowed Catherine to continue for barely a second before she started ranting about the MMR vaccine once more.

“No absolutely not, my son contracted measles six months after the MMR,” she yelled angrily. “The effectiveness of this vaccine has been questioned, and I know the vaccine doesn’t work.”

“Treating your children with disease like it’s a magic sanitiser,” Biba spat.

Stepping in to the debate, Dr Hilary offered: “Not true. The year before vaccinations came in, 99 children died in the UK from measles. The scientific evidence is MMR is very safe.”

Unfortunately, Catherine barely managed to get her point across when Ben and Kate were forced to terminate the debate early as the show wound down to a close.

“I told you,” Kate then said. “It’s never a peaceful discussion it always gets people going.”

But viewers were utterly horrified by the segment and took to Twitter to complain.

“When you start shouting above other opinions, you lose the argument! Selfish parent #GMB,” one person wrote.

Another declared: “#GMB wow @GMB our ears are bleeding sorry turned over!! Don’t need shouting first thing in the morning very rude!!!! Let us know when she has gone!!!”

“Sheesh..shame there isn’t a vaccination for downright rudeness... @GMB #gmb poor Dr Hillary! Well done @benshephard want to be a referee when my kids are fighting??” a third agreed.

While a fourth raged: “Wtf was that awkward and absolutely no debate just shouted your head off... well done you can’t beat statistics!!! Jesus sit down. #GMB.”

Some viewers agreed with Biba’s points however, as one one shared: “My brother was affected by the MMR, I would have serious concerns about it too, nothing is completely safe. #GMB.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
