X Factor 2018: Simon Cowell contestant BEGS for spot in final | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

X Factor is mere weeks away from the live shows, and with just the judges’ houses left, tonight kicked off the contestant’s daunting task of performing to their mentors once more.

The judges’ houses kicked off with Simon Cowell’s house in Malibu, which saw his six girls battle it out for a slot in the show.

However one of his contestants couldn’t make it to America, making the decision even harder for him.

Maria Laroco unfortunately had to stay behind in England citing problems with her American Visa.

Despite this, in a show first, Maria was granted the opportunity to perform via video link.

It wasn’t that simple, however, as Simon revealed each of the potential finalists would be performing in front of some of the biggest producers and songwriters in the world.

As each contestant took the stage to show off their skills, Maria was forced to introduce herself through a screen.

When she appeared she said: “Hey Simon thank you for this opportunity.”

She went on to plead for her spot in the final four, as she continued: “I don’t want this to be my last performance I want to be part of the live shows.

“So please, please, please Simon, pick me.”

Maria went on to sing California Dreamin’ by The Mamas and The Papas.

In tonight’s episode of X Factor Maria will go up against the rest of the group of girls.

This includes Bella Penfold, Mollie Scott, Georgia Burgess, Shan, and Scarlett Lee.

But with only a few slots open for the live shows, will Maria be able to get through despite the issues she has had?

One of Simon’s contestants Bella recently told Express.co.uk how “accommodating” everyone in the show is.

She explained: “Before I went on to do this whole experience I sort of had a Google and there’s so many papers that love to write about when people say horrible stuff but there wasn’t quite as much on how accommodating the staff and producers are.

“I wasn’t very well, I lost my voice, one time I wanted a cup of tea, my tea was there. So I really felt like I was getting treated like I was in the business and it was really lovely.

“It surprised me because I was like, I’m only from Brentwood, I’m not really like massively famous and now I’ve got people making me cups of tea.

“I like to get my hands dirty and do things myself and I don’t really like to have people make my cups of tea, so that was a bit shocking, how nice everybody was.”

X Factor continues tonight at 8pm on ITV.
