The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon to clash? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) has been the focal point of The Walking Dead ever since the show began.

Yet, season nine will change everything since Andrew revealed he’ll be leaving the show after eight years.

That said, Rick will still be very much present in the first few episodes of this new season, and it looks like he might be in for a major clash with his best buddy, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus).

Andrew recently spoke of their strained relationship in season nine, which isn’t surprising since Daryl has very much drawn the short straw after being put in charge of the Sanctuary.

He made it very clear in the first episode he didn’t want the responsibility.

There’s also the added strain of Rick’s decision to keep Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) alive, which Daryl really disagreed with.

“The relationship with Rick and Daryl is strained, and it is the beginning of a bigger problem between the two men, and different ideologies,” Andrew told Talking Dead.

“Rick is the long game — ‘If we’re really going to survive and have longevity and a future, we have to think above ourselves,’” he said.

He continued: “And Daryl is the opposite. He’s going, ‘No. It was great when we were the most powerful and the strongest when it was just us.’”

“And he’s like, ‘Forget about these other guys, they’re not worth it. They’re not good people. They’re never gonna come with us. They’re never gonna see it.’

“I say, ‘You want to come back to us?’ He says, ‘No. I want to go with Maggie.’”

He added: “Which is the biggest, most hurtful — and probably the first time that he’s said it out loud — that you’re wrong.

“To side with her is basically saying, ‘You’re getting it wrong,’” he finished.

Only time will tell to see whether Rick and Daryl end up on the same side again, and time seems to be running out for Rick.

The Walking Dead season nine continues Sunday on AMC and Monday at 9pm on FOX in the UK. Seasons 1-8 are available to stream on NOW TV.
