However, in the end, it was Ronan (Alan McKenna) who met his maker on ITV soap Coronation Street.

Ronan was after the family because his son - and Ryan’s (Ryan Prescott) friend - Cormac died as the result of a drugs overdose.

Ali (James Burrows), a doctor, went to administer some medical help for Ronan despite what he had done, but when Ronan refused to back down so close to Death’s door, Ali did something shocking.

And it looks like his secret could be exposed by none other than Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).

Ronan’s leg had been impaled by a post but initially Ali urged him not to move it because the object was stop his blood from gushing out.

Although he was offering support, Ronan kept goading Ali which triggered an outburst.

“Your son died because he took dodgy pills and now we have to pay for it.

“You know what, Ronan? Why don’t you just do us all a favour and pull that out and die? Or go to prison. Your call.

“Whatever you do just leave us alone, okay?”

Despite his injuries, Ronan was determined to still issue a threat to Ali and his family.

“I’m not going to prison. You see I have a very good lawyer and even if i do go down for some time - i know people.

Ambulance sirens then blared in the distance as Ronan menaced: “Here comes the cavalry. I’m not going anywhere. Say hi to Ryan for me.”

Ali responded: “You need to listen to me, you’re going to hold onto that and try and keep it still, give me your hand.”

Ali proceeded to wrap his hands around Ronan’s to pull the post out of his leg, resulting in an almighty yell from Ronan.

Meanwhile, Ali fought back the tears in the aftermath of what he had done.

Back at the hospital, it was confirmed Ronan had died and Robert was on the scene to comfort Michelle (Kym Marsh).

After a paramedic told Robert they’d never seen a patient pull something out of a wound that was helping to keep them alive, his suspicions were raised.

He told Ali: “Must’ve been hard treating him knowing what he did. I mean, he had a gun, I’d’ve understood if you’d have let him pull it out, that’s what I would’ve done.”

But Ali got defensive with Robert as he replied: “You don’t pick and choose who you want to die.”

“I’m not accusing you of anything,” Robert retorted before Ali said “forget it” and walked out.

Robert clearly knows things aren’t what they seem, so will he be the one to tell everyone what really happened?

Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
