The judge was speaking about the One dancing competition at a National Fitness Day event in London alongside former contestant Colin Jackson, who placed second in 2005.

Darcey admitted she has been “shocked by the high standard” of this year’s new contestants.

Top of the leaderboard at the weekend were former Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts and Steps singer Faye Tozer.

Both contestants received a total of 29 points each making them the strongest contestants, according to the judging panel.

YouTube star Joe Sugg, This Morning and Cbeebies star Dr Ranj Singh and actor Danny John-Jules also scored high marks.

Darcey revealed who she thought could win the show, based solely on week one’s performances.

The 49-year-old announced: “They are all impressing me, actually, it’s such a shock.

“On the first show, there was so much ability there it was extraordinary."

She went on to confess she will struggle to decide who to send home first in Sunday night's elimination.

“It’s going to be really hard seeing people go," Darcey explained. "I don’t want anybody to go, because there were so many surprises.

“You would never know that people had it in them and they were that daring just to throw themselves on to that dance floor.”

She added: “It is so nerve-racking on that dance floor, you’ve got a camera running around you, the audience are right at your feet. It’s very daunting but they all went for it.”

Former sprinter Colin teased that is Darcey was on the panel back in 2005, she would have been impressed by his moves.

He said: “I’m pretty sure if Darcey was a judge back in the day for me, I was a much better dancer back then, she would have been impressed, that’s for sure!

“If you asked Darcey if I’ve still got it from Strictly days, she’d go, ‘You need a little bit of practice, Colin, you are a little ring rusty’. Which is fair enough, I can accept that.”

Susannah Constantine and Anton du Beke placed bottom of the leaderboard. Will they survive this weekend?

Ranking in last place, the judges scored the pair a low collective score of 12.

Bookmakers are predicting Susannah will be the first contestant eliminated from the 2018 competition.

Betway’s Alan Alger told Express.co.uk: “Susannah Constantine ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard last week and she’s odds-on to do so again this weekend.

“At 8/13 for Susannah and Anton to record the lowest score of the week, and just 5/2 to post the least points since Quentin Wilson’s 2004 Cha Cha Cha, it’s fair to say we’re expecting another unpolished routine from the pair.

“Susannah is our 11/8 favourite to wave farewell to the ballroom after this weekend’s Foxtrot, though Seann Walsh needs to improve on las week’s Tango and isn’t out of the running for elimination at 9/4.”

continues on Saturday on One at 6.30pm.
