Strangers spoilers Cliffhanger ending for Jonah Mulray’s wife Megan leaves fans shocked | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Category: Entertainment,Gossip

Professor Jonah Mulray’s (played by John Simm) life was turned upside-down when his wife, Megan Harris (Dervla Kerwin), was killed in a car-crash in Hong Kong in the opening moments of tonight’s episode.

It was revealed that Megan lived and worked in Hong Kong half the year, but that her husband of three years had never travelled there with her due to his fear of flying.

The London-based lecturer and writer was left with no choice but to cross the ocean to identify the body of the woman he loved.

Not long after arriving in Hong Kong, Jonah made a shocking discovery about his wife.

It was revealed Megan already had another husband of 20 years - a discovery which left Jonah shaken.

Further developments also revealed she had a teenage daughter who was arrested for protesting in the opening episode.

However, after appearing throughout the episode with a phone without battery, Jonah finally bought a charger.

It was only when he powered up his phone that he found voicemail from his late wife.

The message did reveal she was involved in a car crash, but was still breathing.

Moments later, a gunshot could be heard, exposing she was actually murdered by a bullet, rather than a “fatal car accident”.

Fans of the show were shocked by the twist and instantly took to social media.

One viewer tweeted: “The ending of #strangers #episode #one is a great #cliffhanger haven’t been this hooked in a long time nice one @ITV.”

“Great first episode - definitely some more twists & turns still to come! I certainly wasn't expecting that ending! #Cliffhanger #Strangers @ITV,” posted another.

A third added: “It can't end there. I can't wait a week! #strangers.”

“The gunshot at the end of the phone message saved the whole episode for me. #Strangers,” wrote another.

A fifth said: “That sounded like a gunshot to me! Was the accident not an accident? #Strangers.”

Jonah will now be drawn deeper into a web of conspiracy as he comes to terms with and tries to uncover the truth about his wife’s death.

Speaking at a press screening for Strangers, actress Emilia Fox told press including Express.co.uk a filming secret.

She giggled: “We had points where I would shoot one side of the door in Hong Kong and Katie [Leung, who plays Lau Chen] would answer the door in Ealing. So that was quite a challenge.”

Strangers continues next Monday on at 9pm.
