Category: Entertainment,Gossip

The highly anticipated new version of Jack Ryan made its debut on Amazon Prime Video this week (August 13).

Starring John Krasinski, this latest telling of the classic Tom Clancy story follows the titular CIA agent on a mission that takes him from Washington DC and all through the Middle East and Europe.

Star of The Office Krasinski gets his teeth into his first major action role, playing a character that has been played by the likes of Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford before him.

Though based on the Clancy novels, the new series is an original story.

Where is Jack Ryan set?

Jack Ryan is set in a variety of different locations across the US, the Middle East and Europe.

In episode one, Jack is working in his office in the CIA in Washington DC.

But upon discovering a suspicious money transfer pf $9 million, he is dispatched to a site in Yemen where he must interrogate two money laundering terrorists.

No sooner than arriving back in the States is he sent on another mission abroad, this time to Paris.

Action here takes place in the French Alps.

Other episodes see the action move to Syria and Turkey.

Where is Jack Ryan filmed?

Just like the fictional story, Jack Ryan was filmed in multiple locations internationally.

The series was filmed over the course of seven months in Washington D.C., Canada, France, and Morocco.

Showrunner Graham Roland said: “If you want to make a true geopolitical thriller, you have to go to Africa.

“You have to go to Europe. And you need resources to do that.”

He added: “So it was great to have all the support we needed to make an eight-hour movie as opposed to just a TV show.”

One of the series directors Patricia Riggen said: “I remember filming in Suleiman’s compound, which is actually a medieval casbah in Morocco close to Marrakesh that has been around since the 13th century.

“The walls are real-life, there are passageways and alleys. Then we went to the desert at night with camels.

“Filming in all these locations was great because you’d be shooting one day in some tiny desert village where a woman’s baking bread in a clay oven, and the next day you’re going to glamorous Paris, which feels very James Bond-y.”

In the US, some filming took place ate real life CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

“They let us film things at Langley that have never been shot before,” Krasinski said.

To ensure authenticity in the action sequences, executive producer Michael Bay connected the production team

with military technical advisors including Kevin Kent.

Jack Ryan season 1, episode 1 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video
