The Great British Bake Off host has largely stayed away from controversy in the past - however one interview bacon 2013 left the public divided.

It came after the comedian was quizzed on what she thought about the Duchess of Cambridge, to which she replied that she couldn’t “think of a single opinion she holds” - calling her “very Jane Austen”.

Now, Sandi, 60, has spoken out about the incident, as she revealed the whole situation had left her very “upset”.

Speaking during an interview with the Radio Times, the TV and radio producer recalled “I was asked about Kate Middleton once and it caused some controversy.

“And that upset me hugely,” she admitted. “Because I wasn’t trying to be unkind to her in any way.”

Sandi went on to insist that she hadn’t meant to cause offence, adding that she hoped she hadn’t insulted the 36-year-old royal.

“I hope she would never, ever think so,” the QI host said.

After establishing her intent hadn’t been malicious, the writer and actor revealed she has found herself frustrated in the past - with “inanimate objects”.

“I get in a temper with inanimate objects,” she laughed.

“I can’t bear plastic. I do get in a complete rage with something that’s been shrink-wrapped.”

“Are these us? Is this Sandi,” he quizzed.

The French baker went on to joke: “Yeah that’s you, you’re fast asleep.

“And that’s Sandi, ****ed off because you’re late.”

The Great British Bake Off continues tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.

The full interview can be seen in the latest issue of Radio Times, which is out now.
