BBC’s Rosie recovering from major brain op | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The mother of four, a regular marathon runner, said she had first developed tinnitus in one ear.

After tests found nothing, she “insisted” on a scan which revealed the growth behind her right eye.

Rosie, who chairs the BBC’s Children In Need, said she had kept quiet until the tumour had been successfully removed and paid tribute to her “skilled” surgeons.

She wrote on Twitter: “Big but benign brain tumour removed in a six-hour op. What a relief. No symptoms and it might have been growing for years. But was huge. Grim.”

She added: “I have been prescribed eight weeks of total rest. Podcasts, books, back editions of the New Yorker! And maybe a new hairstyle.”

She said the hospital was “one of the most professional and skilled places on the planet. God bless the NHS.”

Rosie, of Islington, north London, was the BBC’s arts correspondent until 2004.

This year she was awarded an OBE for services in the arts.
