Piers Morgan brands Angelina Jolie 'needy' over 'public attack' on Brad Pitt | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain host, who is notorious for publicising his sometimes less than complimentary opinions on celebrities, took aim at the actress, 43, after her lawyer said Brad, 54, had not “regularly sustained” payments for their children’s expenses.

The couple first got together in 2005 and are parents to three children of their own and three adopted children.

They married in 2014 but separated two years later and are currently in the process of divorcing.

Piers Morgan called her intent to file for a retroactive child support order a “savage and public attack” on her Hollywood A-lister ex.

“The message was crystal clear: Brad’s a deadbeat dad,” he said in his column for the Daily Mail.

“It’s hard to imagine a worse thing for any father to be accused of than failing to take proper care of his children,” the ITV favourite continued.

He insisted keeping proceedings behind closed doors was “the right thing to do” when children were involved.

Noting how Angelina has long presented herself as a “tough, independent woman”, Piers added: “Why would she now want to make herself look so grasping, whining, needy and man-reliant?

“If Angelina Jolie really thinks Brad Pitt is a useless deadbeat dad, then what better way to prove it than to tell him to stuff his money where the sun don’t shine and provide for her kids herself?” he asked.

“She can certainly easily afford to if she wished.

“Instead, she’s chosen to deliberately, and what may well be falsely, embarrass the father of her children in public.”

The broadcaster blasted: “That’s such a weak, cheap shot, Angelina — especially for a humanitarian who says she always puts her children first.”

Brad’s legal team has hit back at Angelina’s claims in a court filing, saying he paid more than $1.3 million in costs and loaned the Maleficent star $8 million to help her buy a house.

His lawyers called her claims about child support a “thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage”.

They said Brad “adamantly disputes the contention that he has not paid significant child support”.

On Tuesday, Angelina’s lawyer said in a filing: “[Brad] has a statutory duty to pay child support. As of present, [he] has paid no meaningful child support since separation.

“Given that the informal arrangements around the payment of the children’s expenses have not been regularly sustained… for over a year-and-a-half, [she] intends to file… for the establishment of a retroactive child support order.”

In response to Brad’s rebuttal, Angelina’s lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean expressed her hopes the dispute could be resolved “without further delay of posturing”.

“A long is not… child support and to represent it as much is misleading and inaccurate,” she said.

“Angelina is asking Brad to pay 50 per cent of the children’s expenses. He has not.

“Angelina has had to shoulder the majority of those without his contribution for the past two years/ Child support is not optional in California.”
