Countryfile viewers in stitches as Matt Baker is taught to ‘caress apples’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Category: Entertainment,Gossip

fans saw Matt visit the first ever commercial Bramley orchard in the world, where he joined enthusiastic grower Suzannah Starkey.

Her family’s story has been intertwined with that of the Bramley apple almost from the start of the Bramley apple’s existence.

Matt joined her on her rounds, checking the fruit and learning how an orchard is run.

He also found out about the most efficient ways to produce the best Bramleys.

Matt asked Suzannah: “As far as the harvest process is concerned, how delicate or how mechanical is it?”

Suzannah replied: “Can’t be mechanical. Unless you’re putting everything straight into a pie. But we want to sell these as beautiful, prime, grade one, class one fresh fruit.

“So we have to teach the pickers to be ever so delicate with the apples.

“No touching with the fingertips, because if you touch a Bramley apple tree with a fingertip, it will be bruised.

“So I tell the pickers to treat the apples like you’re caressing a loved one and they have to use their muscle here to grip, not the fingertips, but muscles here.”

As Matt held back the laughs, viewers instantly took to social media.

One fan of the show tweeted: “Cupping Bramley apples ooh err #countryfile.”

“Matt trying so hard not to laugh! #Countryfile,” noted another.

A third laughed: “Treat a apple as a loved one #countryfile.”

“#Countryfile Bramley trees and apples live on. I'm loving this ladies passion... muscles, no fingertips! I want a good apple now!” wrote another.

After the demonstration, one viewer questioned: “#countryfile that's how she gets to grips with her loved one.”

“This lady is far to passionate about apples. #countryfile,” posted another.

A third added: “Apple necklace, that’s dedication. #bramley #countryfile.”

“Well this woman knows all there is to know about Bramleys…

“The Bramley does make the best apple pie, even better when paired with blackberries.. #countryfile,” wrote another.
