Danny John-Jules' wife accuses Strictly of ‘trying to destroy’ him | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Yesterday, it was claimed Strictly Come Dancing pair Danny John-Jules and Amy Dowden came to blows during their rehearsals earlier on this week.

A source said to The Sun: “Amy’s been crying constantly at the hands of Danny.

“He gets very angry in the training room and he swears and shouts at her a lot.”

However, both Danny, 58, and Amy, 27, have denied the claims and dismissed the reports on spin-off It Takes Two where they did admit “things did get a little intense” during training.

But the Red Dwarf’s actor’s wife also spoke out about the claims and took to Twitter to accuse the BBC of “throwing her husband under a bus”.

Petula wrote in view of her 411 followers: “Wow @bbcstrictlyPR @bbcstrictly are really throwing #Dannyjohnjules under that bus!... I’m in shock... Why are you trying to destroy him???”

On It Takes Two last night, Amy and Danny spoke to Gethin Jones from the Strictly set where they cleared up the claims.

Speaking to the pair, Gethin said: “It’s been a tough week of training for Danny and Amy, been quite a lot of press about Strictly today. I know you guys would like to say a few words about it.

“How do you want to respond, Amy?”

“Our turn this time. Things did get a little intense the other day in rehearsals,"Amy replied.

“Wednesday, this was?” Gethin asked.

“Yeah, but you know what we got half an hour break and got straight to it. I’ve never felt bullied or threatened by Danny," Amy continued.

“I really want to get this man to Blackpool and then to the final.”

“She said the B word!” Gethin stated before he added: “How about you, Danny?”

He began: “Well I can tell you is the only reason I am here, this far, is because of Amy and I’d never bite the hand that feeds me.

“I’m more than happy, it’s probably the best dancing we’ve done in a couple of days since I’ve been on the show and I’m just happy to go along. She’s the boss. She wears the pants."

It comes after an insider said the two of them had endured a “tough week”.

A Strictly production source told Express.co.uk: “Danny and Amy have had a tough week trying to master their difficult Samba.

“They had a minor disagreement earlier this week but were quickly back into rehearsals that same day and had a good rehearsal yesterday.

“They’re excited to perform together tomorrow night.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7pm on BBC One.
