Stacey Dooley: Strictly Come Dancing 2018 partner Kevin Clifton hits back at criticism | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

The Strictly Come Dancing professional turns 36 today but took time out from celebrating and preparing for tonight’s live show to address a complaint from a fan on social media.

The Strictly viewer, a dancesport coach, used Twitter to vent their issues with the series “making a a mockery” of competitive Ballroom dancing, to which Stacey Dooley's partner Kevin replied: “It’s not dancesport. Never claimed to be.

“Come Dancing eventually lost viewers. Strictly is a re-invention and an entertainment show featuring dance. Why is dancesport bothered?”

However, the Twitter user hit back saying Strictly had become “just a theatrical show” and the dancing “irrelevant”.

“I want to see proper recognisable social dancing not theatrical dancing dressed up to look like social dancing,” he said.

“Stephen!” Kevin snapped, sounding irritated. “It’s not meant to be social dancing! Carry on watching dancesport comps for your enjoyment. Don’t worry so much about Strictly if you don’t enjoy it. It’s not supposed to be social dancing!”(sic)

The viewer insisted Strictly’s “educational value is now zilch”, adding: “Strictly Come Dancing has nothing to do with talent. It is just a theatrical entertainment show. It used to be people wanting to learn a skill but that’s well and truly gone out the window.”

He then took aim at the Strictly Come Dancing judges’ dismissal of Blue star Lee Ryan, 35, last weekend after he lost out in the dance off to actor Charles Venn, 45.

“Lee Ryan was voted out by three theatre judges,” he said. “Shirley [Ballas] was outvoted. I predicted that before it even happened.

“Lee was on time the other bloke wasn’t. The first rule is you dance on time.”

Not backing down, Kevin once again wrote in view of his 190,000 followers: “Actually if you were in the studio you would have seen that Lee also went out of time in his Cha Cha walks and locks.

“Might not have been picked up on camera.”

Away from his run-in with the passionate Twitter user, Kevin has been marking his 36th birthday with fellow Strictly stars.

His celebrity partner Stacey, 31, teased him about getting “old” in a sweet clip which she shared with her 250,000 Instagram followers.

They could be seen celebrating with professional dancer Amy Dowden, 27, backstage as tonight’s live show drew closer.

Stacey also shared a message with the Grimsby-born star on Twitter, telling her 168,000 followers: “It’s King Kev’s birffffffday!

“Let’s go out there this eve and have the best best time!”(sic)

She and Kevin will be performing the Foxtrot on the show tonight as they attempt to keep the momentum going from their Jive success last weekend.

The pair scored an impressive 32 points for their energetic Minion-themed routine for Movie Week.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
