The pair are now expecting a baby girl on Valentine’s Day next year, however, it has been a rollercoaster for the couple after they suffered six tragic miscarriages.

The presenter appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning alongside his 42-year-old wife Amelia, who is around five months pregnant after eight years of IVF treatments.

Amelia revealed that despite sickness, she was “really happy” about the turn of events.

She told Lorraine Kelly: “I feel sick, I have nausea all day but I'm really really happy, I can't believe it’s happening.

“We spent eight years trying, had six miscarriages, but it really is seventh time lucky.”

Matthew also divulged how Amelia had spoken to Lorraine five years ago when he was on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

He said: “Last time Amelia met you, Lorraine, I was in the jungle. She was just talking then about struggling to have kids.

“After that we had two very big miscarriages which was so hard for us.”

Amelia added: “After that happened I thought I need to have a break, maybe it's not meant to be, had to take a break and think about what we wanted to do. It really was the last chance saloon.”

The pair had one last embryo frozen for six years and while they considered donating it to medical science, they decided to give it another go.

She shared: “I couldn’t give up.”

“It is considered a high risk pregnancy,” Matthew explained. “She is scanned twice a week, there have been little bleeds, which can be very normal but also can be frightening, we've been in casualty half a dozen times.”

Matthew, who has been married once before, went to say he never thought he’d be a father.

He said: “I never truly even had a flicker of interest in being a parent, I looked at them and thought, look at them polluting the world. And now I’m going to be a father!”

Amelia complimented: “He is going to be the most doting dad.”

Matthew recently quit his Channel 5 talk show The Wright Stuff after 18 years at the helm.

“The baby news came three days after I quit. I can be a pensioner parent," he said.

But he couldn’t hold back the tears after Lorraine showed the couple videos from some of Matthew’s showbiz friends who wished him well, including Anne Diamond and Christopher Biggins.

“There is so much goodwill in the world to us, our families, we couldn’t have more goodwill from the world," Matthew gushed.

“I can’t quite get my head around it to tell the truth. Everyday, I look at Amelia and think, ‘what have you done?’. It's amazing.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30pm on ITV.
